FOLLOW THE FIVE ONE REMIX PROJECT: THE REMIX ALBUM

The Five One sound is blessed with freedom, inventiveness, and true imagination. The quartet is rooted in hip-hop but is never bound by conventional ideologies of hip-hop or any other genre for that matter. They are like a cross between a pleasing Indie Pop/Rock band and the most innovative Hip Hop group you’ve ever heard. To better understand the band’s musical direction you must understand their philosophy on life and art as a whole.

Philosophers declare that as you grow up, you form a false mental image of who you are, based on your personal and cultural conditioning. So taking in this idea, means that millions of people are walking the earth perceiving themselves in a way dictated by their influences and not there own imagination. The Five One have not only identified this false mental image of themselves, but they are rejecting it through their music and art. They have shed their individual identities and take on the broader identities of colors. The members of The Five One Band, Red, Blue, Green and Gold are the personification of colors. By personifying Colors they are expressing themselves not only with the art they create but as art itself, which represents a lack of emphasis on individual identity, and an emphasis on creating music that strives to speak for everyone. This idea of self awareness through imagination is something that they have come to call, Revalulion.

DOWNLOAD EDUCATED CONSUMERS FREE MIXTAPE: THE WAITING ROOM.

Accesshiphop.com wishes you did not sleep on Educated Consumers:
Big surprise of the week, and sure to be slept on as they always are…even after I ask that you don’t. Educated Consumers are composed of SeezMics, a socio-political battle emcee who made noise in D.C.’s underground and freestyle circuit, and producer t.E.C.K. who draws heavily on a style very dedicated to 90’s boom-bap. SeezMics has a voice that is golden and works perfectly on every beat, with a cadence similar to Brother Ali and Sage Francis, while the beats constantly have me hooked as the combination of the two work on an almost flawless level. Until now I had never heard of these guys but am honestly impressed…from beginning to end this was a refreshing treat. Word!

The Washington Post loves Educated Consumers.
“Write/Hear is like a crash-course in underground hip-hop. The Maryland duo — Seez Mics on vocals and t.e.c.k. on beats — are clearly students of the genre and have taken the best bits and pieces to craft an album that never outstays its welcome, even at 17 tracks and nearly an hour. The beats are mostly pretty simple. That shouldn’t be construed as a criticism: The simplicity keeps things from getting cluttered. Instead of the stark, sinister beats favored by the likes or GZA or the icy minimalism of the Neptunes, the Consumers opt for straightforward beats with some slightly jazzy samples — a little flute here, some horns there — that channel the underground scene of the ’90s more than today. Lyrically the group also avoids extremes, nowhere near nerdcore but without any hard gangsta fronting either. Seez Mics fills the songs with clever wordplay — “1 Hit Wonder” finds him getting far more mileage out of a number theme than he has any right to — and there’s a down-to-earth honesty throughout that is one of the album’s strongest assets.”

Audiversity loves Educated Consumers.
“In a week that’s been full of hip-hop for us, Educated Consumers round out our five-day forecast with their second album, Write/Hear. Let’s get right into it: The duo of Cole “Seez Mics” Policy and Jason “t.E.C.K!” Fields are not actually from Washington DC or Baltimore – they call College Park, Maryland home – but their reputation as arguably the best hip-hop duo to come from the greater metropolitan area betwixt B-town and Dead City has been growing steadily since they first came together in 1999. Already under their belt are two LPs, Aisle 2 having garnered the most acclaim and getting them the attention that allowed Write/Hear to happen. You’ll have to ask Jason Torres what the name of that first one is.

They’ve opened for Murs. They’ve been on a Warped Tour date. They’ve been hyping Write/Hear on their website for over two years. What took so long? Who cares. It’s finally here, and it’s better than you’re expecting, if you were expecting it at all: As the cover-art suggests, this album is built on old-skool beats and back-to-basics lyrical prowess the kind of which has been lamented so often as of late.

Seez Mics is on form straight away on the title-track, a crowd-pleasing, throw-your-hands-up anthem that has to work like magic live. “Make some noise if you’re ready to enjoy it,” and you will be by the time “Right They’re” wraps up a hefty 17 tracks later. This album seems to fly by though, and a large part of the reason is Seez Mics. His delivery isn’t anywhere near Twista-esque brain-benders, but his solid n’ steady flow keeps things lively even as the album winds down in the second half. He’s relentless and relentlessly entertaining.

DOWNLOAD ROSETTA STONED’S FREE MIXTAPE: KINGDOM OF KUSH.

Rosetta Stoned was fertilized by both DC & hip hop and their music and lyrics are beautiful expressions of their lifelong internal struggles.

A crowd of fans pack a dimly lit club. They’re staring uncontrollably, simultaneously perplexed and mesmerized as the two men on stage seem to be inciting a riot. Drinks are spilled, the aggression builds, sweat drips, and heart rates increase. In the rear of the club, people at the bar comment on the insanity while noticing how eloquent and witty the songs are. For someone walking in on the performance, caution may be their first reaction. But for someone who’s seen a Rosetta Stoned live set, they know it’s a safe house for artistic expression. It’s like walking through a violent neighborhood with the safety of a third-person perspective. They’re terrorized stages with the likes of The Beatnuts, Boot Camp Clic, Raheem DeVaughn, DJ Drama, Yo Majesty!, Does It Offend You Yeah?, Percee P, Subtle, The Game Rebellion, Asheru, Kev Brown, Zion I & The Grouch, Glue, Qwel, Sol.ill.aquists of Sound, C-Rayz Walz, Josh Martinez & Sleep, Joe Beats, Time Machine, Crunc Tesla, Akir, etc.

With hundreds of shows under their belts, the duo has experienced the passion of Californians, the ironic warmth of fans in Quebec , and the love that Europeans have for good music. The time has come for their debut project, I Bet You Can’t Pray When You’re Dead, to finally be released. The album is a scenic stroll through the psyche of two artists who are heavily influenced by the likes of Nietzsche, Voltaire, Gandhi, & Malcolm X. They’ve collaborated with many notable independent artists such as Yo Majesty (Dominoe Records), Curse Ov Dialect (Mush Records), Crunc Tesla aka DJ Raedawn (Tigerbeat6), and more.

Their sound is a cutting edge hybrid of various genres. Pulling from electro-crunk and classic hip hop, Rosetta Stoned infuses progressive soundscapes, psychedelic rock, and dubstep. The music is unorthodox and intense, with an emphasis on narratives, polysyllabic rhyme schemes, wordplay, and stylistic experimentation.

What others are saying:

Alexandrah (Sol.illaquists of Sound | Anti Records)
“With aggressive and poetic visions conveyed through rhyme, Rosetta Stoned creates an audio landscape of rarely chartered mental terrain.”

Icon the Mic King (Internationally respected emcee)
“Rosetta Stoned defies convention and delivers high energy performances. Shouts to them for keeping the DC scene alive”

Joe Beats (Non-Prophets | Bully Records)
“Rosetta Stoned’s in your face, grab you by the throat energy and ethic are EXACTLY what’s due in a landscape saturated with ironic, back handed, ingratiating geekery.”

 Mestizo (Galapagos4)
“Rosetta Stoned or better known as check ya dome. Better be ready for’em or get let alone when this hellish home is set to blow.”

 Sleep (Oldominion | Chicharones)
“Rosetta Stoned has one of the best hi-impact shows in hip hop. Don’t sleep on Rosetta Stoned!”
